Sewing My Spring Capsule/// M8368

I have my first make and pattern review for my spring capsule up today. To see all my plans, check out this blog post! I am following along with the Everyday Style Spring Capsule Guide and basing my makes on what I need to fill out my spring wardrobe.

Today I have a piece that will fit into ‘navy athleisure pant.’ I saw this pattern when it came out earlier this spring and actually fell in love with the tops, thinking maybe the pants would be a fun silhouette to try. I sewed them up in some ribbed knit I picked up at Joann and had a horrible outcome with the top, but fell in love with the pants. Incredibly comfortable and I liked the shape of the leg. Something different than a jogger or sweat pant. So when I saw this as one of the pieces in the capsule I knew I wanted to make them in navy. I also knew they would be amazing to travel in, so I whipped them up last week before we got on a plane for Easter weekend.

I used M8368 which is described on the website as “Athletic crop top in two styles, View A has straps with a twisted front detail and View B is a high-neck top with a front cutout detail. Flare pants have waistband with optional front seams or knot detail at waist.”

This pattern comes in misses xs-xl and women’s 1x-5x (labeled as M8369) I am trying to be more cognizant of inclusive sizing when I purchase new patterns and was happy this one was available to a wide range of sewists.

I decided to sew pants version C with the simple yoke and found it incredibly easy to put together. The instructions are very clear and it is a simple pair of knit pants, not a lot of hand holding needed.

The flare on the leg of this pattern is what initially stood out to me and I am really happy with how mine turned out. I guess this could be a going out outfit depending on the fabric you used, but I am sticking with more of an athleisure wear vibe and will be wearing them with a tshirt and sneakers most of the time.

The pattern envelope calls for stretch knits such as athletic knits, cotton knits, or rib knits. I used a wide bamboo spandex rib knit in navy that I picked up from Stone Mountain and Daughter Fabrics for $22.50 a yard. The bamboo makes it incredibly soft and the spandex gives the pants great recovery.

I cut out a size small in the waistband and a medium in the legs, grading the hips ever so slightly to the small. I found my first pair was a little loose in the waistband and this pair fits perfectly. I omitted the elastic that they recommend putting in at the fold of the waistband because I find sometimes that can start to dig in and feel uncomfortable if you’re wearing them all day.

I absolutely love how these turned out, they feel like a fresh twist on navy comfy pants, and I know I will wear them a ton this spring. The lines of this pattern are pretty distinct, so I don’t know if I will be making them again. If I do I may try and make the whole set again, I would love to try one of the tops as more of a workout bra.

Happy to be starting my makes for spring and really glad this one turned out well! Let me know what you think or if you’ve made this pattern yourself.
