Week in the Sewing Life no. 1

This week I had planned on ‘getting back into a routine’ around the house and I can’t say that’s exactly what happened. The big kids were home from school but assigned a big science fair project and we had quite a few appointments to get to. So, while productive, not exactly a normal routine. And this is excluding everything going on in the news and the time and energy that went into witnessing it.

I don’t have any thoughts to add to the news cycle, and I don’t think that’s why you’re here, but I will say loudly and repeatedly, white supremacy is evil and those that uphold it are actively upholding evil. I will forever listen to the leaders that fight for equality and justice for all and I will continue to do my part to make sure that Black Lives Matter in this country. How about Georgia though?!

Anyway, as far as sewing, I did get my first make done and was happy that it was something from my stash. I’m working on the Closet Core Pouf right now and can’t wait to get my piles of unusable fabric scraps out of my office and into this floor pillow.

This weekend I’m going to start working on my coat. I’m going to actually do the right thing and make a muslin to test the fit. The reviews of the pattern I’m using all say it is pretty oversized, I want to make sure I have the right size chosen before cutting into my pretty wool. I also hope to pinpoint any additions or tweaks I want to make to the coat first. These are all normal reasons to make a muslin and as part of my diving deep this year I want to take the time to get it right!

I hope you got some creative time this week and were able to ease back into real life after the holidays. I also hope you are able to take care of yourselves this weekend, whatever that looks like for you!, and stay safe.
