I enjoy reading children’s books as much as my kids and I love hearing about new to me books and checking them out from the library. In case you’re the same way, I thought I’d make this a thing where I share favorite recent reads. I also talk a lot about books over on Instagram so follow me @whit_makes if you need more book porn.
The qualifications for these posts are that the kids had to like the book and I had to like reading it to them. Besides that, all bets are off! Here are some books your kids will like, affiliate links used, thanks for supporting this blog!
Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs: As Retold by Mo Willems
Mo Willems can do no wrong and this was a part of a larger lesson I’ll share later. The illustrations are just as important as the story and there are a lot of visual jokes in this one. We all laughed at this one and came back to it a few times.
Are You A Monkey?: A Tale of Animal Charades
A group of animals are playing charades, can you guess what they are each pretending to be? The illustrations are cool in this one but what really makes it is that we played charades as soon as we put it down and throughout the week. Love a book that sparks something else and continues being talked about!
A beautifully illustrated book about a family that uses their vacation to come to their cabin. But when they return home there are other visitors that take advantage of the lovely autumn weather. Just a sweet, fun book for this time of year.
We have named our homeschool this year the Howling Wolf Pack Academy so obviously when I saw this on the library’s new shelf, I picked it up! A young wolf is going with his dad to his first howling at the moon and doesn’t quite do what is expected. It was a fun read because a) howling is involved and b) we have been learning about the moon and it just happened to fit in nicely with that.
Hope you enjoy these books as much as we did!
Great finds! Yes, Mo W. Is the best.
